Senior Data Scientist
Full-Time Position in Portland, OR
We are seeking an environmental data scientist with multi-disciplinary experience analyzing and managing environmental data using geographic information system (GIS) principles. The applicant must be highly motivated with a MS or PhD degree in one of the environmental or physical sciences and five or more years of experience working as a professional in a consulting firm, industry, or a regulatory agency.
Extensive experience with GIS software, multispectral image analysis/processing and/or object-based image analysis (OBIA), programming and scripting languages (R, Python, Perl, SQL), and spatial databases (PostGIS, SQL Server) are required. Knowledge of fluid dynamics, boundary layer physics, energy balance concepts, and/or micrometeorology is preferred. Typical responsibilities will involve analysis of air quality dispersion model input and output, statistical modeling using vector and raster datasets, developing and maintaining spatial databases for internal and Web-based use, and applying air quality concepts to remote sensing analyses in novel ways.
We are seeking a person comfortable using open-source tools, possessing a curious mind, and excited by new challenges. The ideal candidate will be able to approach an unfamiliar environmental problem then advise and implement scientifically-appropriate and practical solutions to solve real-world problems for clients.
