Dean Chavez serves as an Aerometric Monitoring Technician with Air Sciences, supporting the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s (LADWP) Owens Lake Dust Mitigation Project. As part of the Owens Lake field team, he assists with environmental monitoring activities that help ensure the effectiveness of dust mitigation measures while supporting LADWP’s long-term air quality and environmental compliance objectives.
Prior to joining Air Sciences, Dean successfully owned and operated his own barbershop for 17 years, where he developed strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills. His experience managing a business has fostered a dependable work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt in dynamic environments—qualities he now brings to the Owens Lake field program.
Outside of work, Dean enjoys running and has completed both half and full marathons. He also values spending time with his young daughter and his dog and enjoys riding his motorcycle whenever he has the opportunity.
